All Inclusive Salary package (R): R1 544 415- R 1 739 784 per annum

Objective: **Please note: A message indicating "Application submitted" must appear at the end of the process to confirm successful submission.** A position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) exists within the South African Qualifications Authority. The eligible candidate will collaborate with the SAQA Board to define and articulate SAQA’s strategic objectives towards achieving SAQA’s mission. The eligible candidate must be a visionary who can provide strategic direction and leadership in the implementation of SAQA’s strategic objectives and give effect to the provisions of the National Qualifications Framework, as amended. SAQA has gained a national and international footprint and is highly respected locally and globally. The institutional culture and its values emphasise ethical leadership and integrity when executing its mandate. SAQA consistently attains over 90% of its annual performance targets and has always achieved unqualified and clean audit reports. The suitable incumbent must lead by example and demonstrate exemplary ethical leadership, good governance, and integrity. A psychological assessment and a presentation to the interview selection committee will form part of the recruitment process.


Requirements are: The eligible candidate must have a relevant Post Graduate qualification (NQF Level 9 or above) or equivalent with at least ten (10) years’ experience at senior and/or executive level, of which five (5) years should be in a strategic leadership position, in a medium to large diversified and complex organisation, operating with a mandated partnership network.
The candidate, therefore, must have the strategic competence and ability to take responsibility and accountability for the planning, execution, and monitoring of new and existing functions and projects
Extensive knowledge of the South African Education and Training landscape, the South African National Qualifications Framework, and other national, regional, and continental National Qualifications Frameworks relating to global discourses on world referencing of learning and student mobility, will be a distinct advantage.
The position requires a candidate with competencies such as strategic thinking, transformational leadership, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
The successful candidate must also have the ability to communicate and interact with officials at all levels of government and work effectively with National Qualifications Framework partners as well as a broader range of stakeholders and constituencies.
The candidate must be able to motivate teams and simultaneously manage several projects and have the passion, intellect, and strategic acumen to lead and stimulate public debate related to the National Qualifications Framework.
Duties : • Provide bold strategic leadership to ensure a world-class National Qualifications Framework that works for the people in South Africa
• Oversee the further development and implementation of the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) and advance its objectives, which contribute to the full development of each lifelong learner and to the social and economic development of the nation at large
• Manage the affairs of SAQA, as a statutory body, in terms of the National Qualifications Framework Act, No. 64 of 2008 as amended, the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA) and other relevant legislation
• Oversee the performance of the organisation and manage compliance with legal and regulatory requirements
• Ensure SAQA’s financial viability through effective budgeting, management, fundraising and income generation
• Position SAQA through strategic advocacy and marketing and international engagements and cooperations, thereby ensuring the National Qualifications Framework has a high profile
• Act pro-actively within the socio-political environment affecting SAQA to strengthen and build relationships with all the National Qualifications Framework Partners and other stakeholders, locally and internationally.
