DEPUTY DIRECTOR: RESEARCH

All Inclusive Salary package (R): R741 084.25

Objective: This vacancy exists within the Research Directorate of the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA). The successful candidate will conduct, report on, oversee, and assist with the management of, research towards the implementation and further development of the National Qualifications Framework (NQF). This work covers the spectrum of research foci relating to the NQF, including specialised work on redress and learner access, and success and progression in the system for education, training, development and work in South Africa; writing at peer-review level; and writing, producing, and/or assisting with, research and other publications for different NQF audiences, policy reviews and inputs, position papers, and other written items, and research events.


Requirements are: The most eligible candidate should have a relevant NQF Level 9 qualification or equivalent in education research with at least three years of experience in conducting, reporting on and assisting with the management of, research.
A qualification at NQF Level 10 or the equivalent would be an added advantage. Qualifying candidates must be computer literate with skills for word processing, spreadsheets, presentation packages, e-mail and the internet.
They should be passionate about research and developing research capacity, writing for peer reviewed journals, writing for different audiences and supporting research-related development.
Knowledge of NQFs, Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)/ access to education and training, Credit Accumulation and Transfer (CAT) and other mechanisms that enhance learner progression through the system, monitoring and evaluation, and impact studies, and willingness to be involved in and lead national initiatives in related areas are also essential.
A spirit of commitment and willingness to work towards lifelong learning and NQF development are integral.
Working with education and training communities across the landscape is also a requirement.
Duties : The main duties in this position are to:

- Assist with managing research publications
- Manage and develop staff to ensure outputs are met
- Manage all resources efficiently.
