Objective: This vacancy exists within the Research Directorate of the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA), for an Assistant Director: Research. The successful candidate will assist the Research Director and Deputy, to conduct, report on, oversee, and manage, research towards the implementation and further development of the NQF. This work covers the spectrum of research foci relating to the NQF as well as specialised work relating to redress and learner access, success and progression in the system for education, training, development and work; writing at peer-review level and writing for different audiences.


Requirements are: The most eligible candidate should have a relevant NQF Level 7 qualification or equivalent in education research with at least two years of experience in conducting, reporting on and managing research.
They must be passionate about managing research, developing research capacity, writing for different audiences and supporting research-related development.
Some knowledge of National Qualifications Frameworks (NQFs), Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), Credit Accumulation and Transfer (CAT) and other mechanisms that enhance articulation and learner progression through the system, monitoring and evaluation, and impact studies ? and willingness to be involved in national initiatives in related areas are also essential
Qualifications or the equivalent at NQF Levels 8, 9 or 10 will be an added advantage
High skill levels, a spirit of commitment, and willingness to work as part of a team towards lifelong learning and NQF development, from within a large organisation, are essential.
Duties : The main duties in this position are to:
- Assist with conducting and managing qualitative and quantitative research towards NQF implementation and further development;
- Assist with NQF-related events and initiatives;
- Write for different audiences;
- Assist with policy development and critique;
- Assist with the management and development of staff to ensure that research outputs are met; and
- Manage resources efficiently.
