All Inclusive Salary package (R): R1 041 237

Objective: The Information Technology Directorate delivers technology solutions and services that drive the innovation and business value throughout SAQA. To this end the Director Information Technology acts as an advocate for the business value of technology inside SAQA, with customers and service providers. A vacancy has arisen within the Directorate of Information Technology for a person who will provide strategic leadership in the development, implementation and maintenance of effective information technology systems that support the IT information needs of SAQA.


Requirements are: The applicants should be in possession of an NQF level 7 qualification or equivalent in Information Technology Systems including experience in managing IT infrastructure and must have served in a senior management position for five (5) years and more.
People Management, communication, problem solving, project management and evaluation skills should be the strengths of those aspiring for appointment.
The incumbent will be expected to write and manage the implementation of IT policies and procedures for SAQA in terms of the Corporate Governance of Information and Communication Technology Policy Framework.
The successful incumbent should also demonstrate a thorough knowledge of computer hardware & software as well as database principles and management.
The Director Information Technology will report to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
Duties : The main duties of this position are to:
- Align the directorate's Information Technology Strategy with the strategic direction and management plans of SAQA;
- Promote the effective utilisation of information technology as a strategic resource by managers in the organization;
- Provide strategic direction towards managing, coordinating and ensuring a stable IT environment through effective and proper IT planning, business analysis, implementation and business systems support;
- Ensure that IT Governance initiatives are integrated into SAQA's strategic imperatives and operations;
- Develop and manage the implementation of IT strategies, policies and operational plans;
- Use information technology to improve service delivery-related structures and processes;
- Develop and maintain information systems and management information systems (MIS) as well as IT guidelines, policies, regulations and standards in line with national IT strategies and policies;
- Change the culture by incorporating an integrated IT approach that increases the overall co-ordination and integration information system;
- Develop, maintain and manage partnerships with IT goods and service providers as well as maintaining service level agreements;
- Keep up-to-date with the most recent IT trends and developments and advise SAQA Executives on how new technological solutions and their implementation will meet business and systems requirements;
- Manage IT security risks by ensuring security of data, network access, backup systems and maintain the IT network and the upgrading of the system ;
- Provide database management and technical support;
- Manage IT staff, which includes recruiting, training, guidance, and overall performance management; and
- Manage IT budget in line with SAQA policies and the applicable regulations.
